
The NASA Research Park is located at the former Moffett Field Naval airbase adjacent to the NASA Ames Research Center. This campus was designed to harness the power of universities, private enterprise, and government research in Silicon Valley, and to quickly move new technologies towards societal benefit. Goals of the NASA Research Park include fostering innovative research and technology development, facilitating the transfer and commercialization of technologies by benchmarking their use in research and applications, and using hands-on education and workforce development to promote adoption of new technologies.

The UAV Collaborative was established to promote the research and development of UAVs for scientific, civil and commercial use. The UAV Collaborative established a Cooperative Agreement with NASA over the 4-year period 2004-2008. This Cooperative Agreement has been renewed for the 4-year period 2008-2012. The joint goal is to conduct collaborative research, development, and demonstration, leading to enhanced data acquisition in the National Airspace System.
