Wider Applications
Results from our April 2005 UAV frost detection mission will be first shared at a meeting of the California Vintners' Association. The long-term commercial significance of this new technology is its potential value to the vineyard communities of California's North and Central Coast, which are subject to extremely variable seasonal frost conditions. Other grape and orchard regions affected by severe weather related damage such as Washington and Oregon may also be suitable for application of this technology.
It is anticipated that this research could be applied universally to agricultural systems. UAVs can provide scientific measurements in near real time enabling timely information for decision-making.
